Towards a New History

Welcome to the GROUP FOR A NEW HISTORIOGRAPHY IN EVOLUTION AND CURRENT BIOLOGY

Our understanding of the development of evolutionary biology is on the verge of a new outlook. Continued research by evolutionists, historians, and philosophers show that the current view organized around an assumed lasting opposition between “Darwinian” and “non-Darwinian” approaches to evolution undermines the complexity of the field. Researchers of all stripes are invited to join us in the search for an alternative view.

What are the Group’s aims?

  1. Questioning the traditional historiographical categories such as the Darwinian revolution, the eclipse of Darwinism, the Evolutionary Synthesis, Post-Synthetic Developments, Extended Evolutionary Synthesis, Alternative to the Evolutionary Synthesis, etc.
  2. Creating a coherent narrative binding pre-1960 and post-1960 developments in evolutionary biology.
  3. Reuniting historians, philosophers, and evolutionary biologists under a united quest.
  4. Breaking the relative isolation of researchers by forging a community spirit by:
    (a) organizing worshops;
    (b) publishing special issues and edited volumes;
    (c) listening to each other by sharing a list of common readings in order to work our collective way toward a more unified view (including reading the work of our group members).
